FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after a man was shot and killed overnight Sunday in a parking garage in the city’s downtown entertainment district.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, it happened at around 4:30 a.m. in a parking garage at the Broward County Governmental Center, near Southwest Second Street and First Avenue.
Police said medics took the victim to the nearby Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead.
A Local 10 News crew saw no visible evidence markers at the scene, but did see what appeared to be a hat sitting on the sidewalk in front of a parking garage.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victim but said they recovered a gun and located and detained a person if interest.
“This case is still active and if anyone witnessed this event, please call police,” Sgt. Patrick O’Brien, an FLPD spokesperson said in an email to Local 10 News.
