CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Detectives have been investigating a homicide since police officers found a man dead early Thursday morning in Coral Springs.

Witnesses said they heard a shooting shortly before 3 a.m., and a helicopter flying over at about 5 a.m. near Royal Palm Boulevard and Riverside Drive.
Police officers used a white tent and a tarp to cover the victim’s body near the garbage area of Coral Park East, a community of townhomes.
There was also crime scene tape near the pool of a neighboring apartment building at the Coral Springs Tower Club community, and there appeared to be an assault rifle in the water.

Police officers also used crime scene tape to block access to a sports utility vehicle with blood marks.
