Miami Gardens food giveaway marks America’s upcoming 250th anniversary

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Gardens was the place to be on Saturday as hundreds of families lined up for a major food giveaway.

Good Neighbor Day America partnered with VOUS Church’s Miami Gardens campus, which served as one of the flagship sites for the nationwide event.

To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, organizers aimed to complete 250 million acts of kindness in a single day.

Here in South Florida, this distribution was one of those acts. Cars wrapped around the parking lot as volunteers handed out bags filled with food to families in need.

“This is actually our third food distribution so far this year, and we’re looking to be able to provide food even more frequently,” said Katharine Canals, a pastor and director of outreach for VOUS Church. “Right now, it’s a part of our monthly ‘I Love My City’ outreach, but hopefully in the future, we will be able to open up weekly food distributions from our location.”
