Video shows Sarasota superyacht crash into dock along New River in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A witness recorded a video showing a superyacht crashing into city property on Monday in Fort Lauderdale.

Michael Mobile, better known as Mobile Mike, shared the video showing “The Determination” motor superyacht along the New River in the Riverwalk neighborhood.

“A yacht was being towed down the river at an incredibly high speed,” Mobile wrote, according to a post on X. “Right away, I knew something didn’t seem right, so I pulled out my camera.”

Mobile reported police officers and fire rescue personnel responded after the crash that he witnessed across the New River, near Southeast First Avenue.

Mobile’s video shows a small boat marked as owned by Steel Towing and “The Determination,” a 112-foot Westport motor yacht, based in Sarasota, Fla.

The impact damaged the dock and the roof at the stormwater pump station at 100 N. New River Drive, according to city officials.

City crews closed the adjacent sidewalk, placed barriers around the property damage, and a structural engineer was set to assess the building and the seawall, according to city officials.

City employees notified the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s marine unit and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to city officials.
