Don Garber, the MLS commissioner, awarded Messi the 2025 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player and described him as a game changer.
It was Messi’s second consecutive MLS MVP award.
“He has elevated this league in ways that I don’t think anybody could have imagined,” Garber said, adding, “When you have the greatest player to ever play a game playing here at Inter Miami, it raises the profile of the league.”

Inter Miami also celebrated the inaugural Messi Cup, a tournament for club players younger than 16 years old. The games are from Tuesday to Dec. 14.
