North Miami woman recovering after bullet hits her while she was in bed

MIAMI — A 38-year-old woman is recovering after she was struck by a bullet while sitting in her bedroom in her North Miami home.

Angeline Jean Elliott said she was in bed watching TV last week when she suddenly heard a “puff.”

She soon felt pain and heat in her left leg. Then she saw the blood.

Elliott had been shot, but she had no idea how the bullet got into her bedroom.

According to police, her neighbor was cleaning rust off a gun when it accidentally discharged. The bullet first went through a wall before entering Elliott’s home.

The bullet then struck a metal bedpost, slowing it down before eventually hitting Elliott in the leg.

Elliott underwent surgery Tuesday to remove the bullet.

Her neighbor ran over to help her after the shooting. Police classified the incident as an accidental shooting, and no charges were filed.

“I felt bad for him because he was crying,” Elliott said. “According to me, I thought that it wasn’t intentional.”

Elliott, who is a nurse, said she is grateful to be alive.

“Thank you, God and praise Him, you know, forever,” she said.

Looking at the path the bullet took, Elliott said she considers herself lucky.
