Man arrested in deadly northwest Miami-Dade shooting sparked by ongoing dispute, MDSO says

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in northwest Miami-Dade that investigators say stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving jealousy over a relationship.

According to an arrest report, William Serrano Domenech, 49, who is currently homeless, was taken into custody Tuesday, a day after the shooting near Northwest 38th Street and Northwest 33rd Avenue.

The report states that Serrano Domenech went to the area at about 5:35 p.m. Monday, where he was socializing with a witness.

The victim arrived a short time later, and a verbal dispute broke out, investigators said.

According to the witness, Serrano Domenech began slapping and punching the victim. When the witness attempted to intervene, investigators said Serrano Domenech pulled a gun from a fanny pack and shot the victim in the abdomen.

Serrano Domenech then fled eastbound on Northwest 38th Street, according to the report.

The victim was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The victim’s identity was not mentioned in the arrest report.

Investigators said the shooting followed an ongoing dispute between Serrano Domenech and the victim that stemmed from the suspect’s alleged jealousy over the victim’s relationship with the witness.

The witness told investigators that the victim was unarmed and did not initiate the physical altercation.

According to the arrest report, deputies spotted Serrano Domenech Tuesday near Northwest 32nd Street and Northwest 31st Avenue.

When deputies attempted to approach him, Serrano Domenech entered the yard of a nearby home in an apparent attempt to avoid the deputies, investigators said.

Deputies detained him, and the report states that Serrano Domenech spontaneously told them, “I’m Willy, the guy you’re looking for from yesterday.”

While attempting to retrieve his identification, deputies spotted a handgun inside a bag in his possession, according to the report.

Investigators said Serrano Domenech has previous federal felony convictions for cocaine sales and weapons offenses.

After being read his Miranda rights, Serrano Domenech admitted to shooting the victim, according to the arrest report. Investigators noted that his account of what happened was inconsistent with the witness’s version of events.

Serrano Domenech was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm and/or ammunition by a convicted felon.

As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
