Video shows suspect rummaging through Hallandale Beach home before pointing gun at kids, cops say

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — Video obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday shows a man who police say rummaged through a bedroom inside a Hallandale Beach home before a family returned and encountered him.

The incident happened Sunday evening in the area of the 1000 block of Southwest Third Avenue, according to Hallandale Beach police.

Police said the suspect entered the home through a rear window. When the family returned, the suspect pointed a gun at two children, ages 10 and 12, before fleeing the home.

Video captures the children crying as the suspect runs away.

Police later arrested Rashad Randzell Corouthers, 36, whom investigators said was tracked down using a GPS monitor he was wearing.

Authorities said Corouthers is a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

“The idea that a man sick could point a gun at a child is horrifying,” Hallandale Beach resident Eve Mart said. “You gotta be a sick individual.”

Jail records show Corouthers is facing one count each of home invasion with a firearm or deadly weapon. He is also facing two counts of aggravated assault wit a deadly weapon without intent to kill in an unrelated case.

As of Wednesday, he was being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
