FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Cynthia Husband said her 15-year-old granddaughter, who was shot and wounded, remained hospitalized for the second day on Monday in Fort Lauderdale.

Husband said her granddaughter, Kamani Brown, was the victim of a shooter she knew early Saturday morning along the 1700th block of Northwest Ninth Street in Fort Lauderdale.
Fire rescue personnel took Kamani to Broward Health Medical Center. Kamani’s mother, Kahadeja McCray, told Local 10 News that a 16-year-old ex-boyfriend had sent threatening messages.
“If I can’t have you, nobody will,” the teenage boy wrote in a text message to Kamani, according to McCray.

On Sunday, outside of the medical center, McCray told Local 10 News that she was still afraid for her daughter’s safety since detectives had not made an arrest.
“I want him to go to jail, because I don’t know what mentality you’re thinking at a young 16 years old, that you had a right to shoot at somebody, let alone want to take their life,” McCray said.
