Miramar leaders weigh plan to extend Pembroke Road to U.S. 27

MIRAMAR, Fla. — Pembroke Road currently comes to a stop just a couple of miles short of the Everglades. A new proposal could change that, extending the road through undeveloped land and connecting it to U.S. 27.

Sky 10 flew over the stretch of land between the current end of Pembroke Road and U.S. 27, where the proposed extension would be built.

Miramar city leaders are expected to discuss the plan at a commission meeting Wednesday night.

Under the proposal, Pembroke Road would be extended to U.S. 27. The project would also require Pembroke Road to be widened into a four-lane divided road.

The plan includes an extension of Miramar Parkway to the south. That stretch would become a two-lane undivided street from Southwest 192nd Terrace to Pembroke Road.

If the plan moves forward, FDOT would issue the city a permit as part of an agreement because the agency owns the right of way for U.S. 27.

The proposal could also mean road closures and additional traffic tied to the project, potentially creating headaches for drivers who oppose the idea.
