1 dead after crash involving Miami-Dade deputy

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — One person has died after a crash involving a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy and two civilian vehicles Wednesday night, authorities said.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. near Northwest 51st Terrace and Northwest 33rd Avenue.

The deputy was driving an unmarked MDSO vehicle at the time.

One of the civilian drivers was taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. That person later died.

The driver of the other civilian vehicle was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The deputy was treated at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

A picture obtained by Local 10 shows the flipped vehicle. A person can also be seen on the ground in the area, apparently in handcuffs. It was not immediately clear what role that person played.

MDSO is investigating. A heavy police presence remained at the scene, and the block was shut off to traffic.
