Lauderhill man busted for expensive car theft in Miami Beach, authorities say

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A 20-year-old Lauderhill man is facing a serious charge for a high-end car theft that authorities say occurred in Miami Beach.

Jail records show Widlin Deshommes was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Broward Sheriff’s Office located at 2601 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by Local 10 News, officers in Miami Beach responded to a home on the 800 block of W. Dilido Drive on Sept. 16, where the owners said someone stole their 2025 green Land Rover SUV from the driveway.

Surveillance video from around 3:37 a.m. that morning showed two suspects get out of a white SUV outside of an electric security gate, which was closed at the time, and jumping over the gate to gain access to the enclosed driveway, police said.

The suspects were wearing hoodies and had their faces covered, according to police, and after gaining access to the Land Rover, rummaged around inside it for between two and three minutes before one of the suspects got out and went back to their white SUV.

Police said the second suspect remained inside the Land Rover, and soon after the vehicle’s lights came on and the suspect drove off with the stolen SUV. At the same time, the white SUV that the suspects arrived in also left the area in tandem with the stolen Land Rover, according to the report.

Less than two hours later, officers with the Miami Police Department notified Miami Beach PD that the stolen Land Rover had been located along the 1900 block of Northwest Fifth Place.

Surveillance video obtained by investigators showed the same suspects “rummaging through the stolen vehicle, appearing to search for the vehicle’s tracking device,” according to an arrest warrant.

Detectives recovered the vehicle and brought it back to MBPD for processing, ultimately identifying four fingerprints on both the inside and outside of the vehicle that belonged to Deshommes, the report states.

Police said surveillance video showed Deshommes touching the vehicle in the areas where the fingerprints were located, which helped them identify who he was.

That led to authorities obtaining a warrant for Deshommes’ arrest.

Official documents did not indicate how officers ultimately located and arrested Deshommes, but jail records show he has since been extradited to Miami-Dade County where he is facing charges of first degree grand theft and first degree burglary of an occupied structure while masked.

As of Wednesday morning, Deshommes was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a bond of $30,000.
