Miami Gardens doorbell video offers new look at events leading to record drug seizure

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Doorbell camera video from a Miami Gardens home is offering a new view of the initial events that led to what prosecutors have described as a record-setting drug seizure.

The case started as an investigation into an armed robbery.

In one clip, Anthony Gordon is seen staring down the barrel of a firearm as an armed robber, whose name remains unknown, threatens him.

“You are ready to die?” the man says.

The armed robber then appears to leave with his arms full of items.

At the Miami Gardens home, Gordon’s girlfriend, Danette Young, is also seen. Police say Young ran to a neighbor for help. That neighbor shot and killed the gun-wielding man.

In another clip, Gordon returns to the home. A closer look at the video shows him carrying items in his hands.

Police would later execute a search warrant at the home and show during a court hearing what they say they found: millions of dollars in cash and illegal drugs.

Investigators said the amount of drugs was enough to charge Gordon and Young with trafficking.

Gordon’s defense team says the allegations have gone too far.

Defense attorney Jonathan Jordan told Local 10 News in a statement that his client was the victim of a home invasion robbery in which he almost lost his life.

During a court hearing, a question was raised about whether firearms were found near fentanyl.

Jordan also questioned who owned the narcotics and weapons found inside the home, who had access to them and what evidence exists showing which of the multiple occupants knew about the contraband.

Because multiple people lived in the home at the time, Jordan said questions remain about the evidence.

Gordon and Young are now also facing federal charges. Their defense attorney said the pair are in federal detention ahead of Friday morning’s arraignment on incident-related federal charges.

Court records also show they have a court hearing related to the filed state charges at the Richard Gerstein Justice Building Thursday morning.
