NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — Nearly three years after a father and his two sons were shot and killed in North Miami, a jury has convicted the accused gunman of first and second-degree murder.

Police said Pierce Hoempler got into a physical fight with his neighbor, Hector Rivera, outside an apartment building in November 2023, and pinned him down on the lawn.
When Rivera’s two sons came to his aid, police say Hoempler, then 33, shot all three of them, killing them.

Relatives identified the victims as Hector, Frankie and Jeremy Rivera.
Body camera footage obtained by Local 10 News shows Hoempler’s arrest.
According to police, the deadly triple shooting happened in the 12000 block of Northeast Fifth Avenue, just south of 123rd Street.
In the video, Hoempler attempted to make a self-defense claim, however he was taken into custody and was ordered jailed without bond.
He is expected to be sentenced next month.
