Miami Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched at about 1:52 a.m. to the 3700 block of Northwest 23rd Court for a report of a person with an “alleged gunshot wound.”

They said the boy was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in “extremely critical condition.”

Authorities said a 45-year-old woman was also transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Miami Fire Rescue said she had no reported injuries.

Police closed Northwest 23rd Court near 38th Street as officers and detectives investigated. Several Miami police cruisers could be seen at the scene with emergency lights flashing, while police tape surrounded a home investigator appeared to be focusing on.

Crime scene investigators were also seen entering and leaving the area with equipment. A clear evidence bag containing what appeared to be a gun was also visible at the scene.

Neighbors told Local 10 News they heard multiple gunshots followed by yelling and the sound of people running through the area.

One neighbor said he heard about seven gunshots. Another said security-camera footage captured activity in the area, but he later claimed that footage had been deleted and could not be shared.

The investigation remained active early Saturday morning, and police had not immediately released additional details about what led to the shooting or any information about the boy injured in the shooting.
