PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. \u2014 U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz on Thursday announced that he is seeking re-election in Florida\u2019s newly drawn 25th congressional District. <\/p>\n

The Broward County-based district is considered \u201cone of the most competitive congressional races in the country\u201d and is rated a toss-up by the Cook Political Report, a news release from his office states. <\/p>\n

Moskowitz said his campaign will focus on \u201clowering costs for Florida families, restoring normalcy to American politics, and standing up to the growing rise of antisemitism and political extremism.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe American people are struggling to afford a regular way of life. Many barely have enough money for their bills and feel squeezed by rising costs,\u201d he said. \u201cWe must work together to bring back the American dream for the middle class in America. I have never hesitated to work with anyone across the aisle if I think it\u2019ll improve the lives of my constituents.\u201d <\/p>\n

The news release states that the district is made up of 35.9% independent voters, 31.2% Democrats and 32.9% Republicans, and is estimated to be 25% Jewish.<\/p>\n

Moskowitz, 45, also addressed growing concerns about antisemitism and political violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolitical extremism is expanding, and antisemitism is spreading and becoming mainstream. I am only here because my grandparents escaped Europe in WWII. My grandmother escaped Berlin, Germany through the Kindertransport. Because of good people who stood up to evil, my family was able to come to America and build a life in South Florida,\u201d he added. \u201cSo, when I see people in my own party talking about concentration camps or deporting Jews, I am going to be an immovable object to that movement. My kids are never going to hide in attics.\u201d <\/p>\n

Moskowitz highlighted his experience serving under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis as director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, where he oversaw the state\u2019s response to hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic and disaster recovery efforts.<\/p>\n

Moskowitz, who was born and raised in Broward County, previously served as a city of Parkland commissioner, a member of the Florida House of Representatives and on the Broward County Commission. He currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n

Florida\u2019s newly redrawn 25th congressional district will officially go into effect when the next congressional term begins in January 2027. <\/p>\n

The district stretches along the coast from Palm Beach County to Miami Beach, and voters will decide who represents it in the Nov. 3 general election.<\/p>\n
