HAVANA \u2014 Michael Hammer, the top diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, released a video on Friday reporting on his trip to the province of Artemisa. <\/p>\n

Hammer traveled to an apartment in San Antonio de los Ba\u00f1os to meet with the mother of a political prisoner and political dissidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump and Secretary Rubio are insisting that all of the political prisoners be free,\u201d Hammer said during the recorded meeting, according to the video. <\/p>\n

The meeting included Carlos Manuel Pupo Rodr\u00edguez, a leader of the Partido Uni\u00f3n por Cuba Libre, or PUNCLI, an opposition party. <\/p>\n

The meeting also included Mar\u00eda Ang\u00e9lica Ram\u00edrez, the mother of Denis Hern\u00e1ndez Ram\u00edrez, who remained behind bars in Artemisa.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is fine, health-wise; he is just very tense,\u201d Ram\u00edrez told Hammer about her 33-year-old son, according to the video. <\/p>\n

Both Pupo Rodr\u00edguez and Hern\u00e1ndez Ram\u00edrez were arrested in 2021 over protests during a shortage of food and medicine. Their charges were contempt and public disorder. <\/p>\n

Catholic church leaders intervened, and although both were released last year, Hern\u00e1ndez Ram\u00edrez was rearrested in March. <\/p>\n

Hammer, who grew up in Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil, served as the U.S. ambassador to Chile from 2014 to 2016. <\/p>\n
