HAVANA \u2014 The U.S. Treasury Department issued new sanctions on Thursday on Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, Cuban President Ra\u00fal Castro\u2019s son, Alejandro \u201cEl Tuerto\u201d Castro Esp\u00edn, three of their relatives, and five entities. <\/p>\n

The three others are Cuba\u2019s First Lady Lis Cuesta Peraza, D\u00edaz-Canel\u2019s stepson Manuel Anido Cuesta, who lives in Madrid, and Ra\u00fal Castro\u2019s grandson Raul Alejandro Castro Calis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aggressiveness and perversity of the Yankee government will clash with our determination to confront the worst scenarios and resist the imperialist onslaught,\u201d D\u00edaz-Canel wrote on Thursday evening on X. <\/p>\n

At the White House, President Donald Trump talked about his plan to intervene in Cuba, which he said had collapsed without support from Venezuela. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will take care of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and as soon as that\u2019s done on our way back, we will take care of it,\u201d Trump said on Thursday afternoon. <\/p>\n

The list of entities includes Amistur Cuba S.A., a travel agency based in Havana and established in 1996, and Minera La Victoria, a company established in 2020 for the mining of other non-ferrous metal ores. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe regime in Havana has recruited, trained and backed violent Marxist and third-worldist movements across our hemisphere and beyond. Today, we are targeting the network that enables and funds Cuba\u2019s subversive and radical operations,\u201d U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement published on X. <\/p>\n

The list also includes the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con Los Pueblos and the Comit\u00e9s de Defensa de la Revoluci\u00f3n, both established in 1960 and based in Havana\u2019s Vedado area. <\/p>\n

The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, or MINFAR, established in 1959, was also sanctioned. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone providing services to these sanctioned actors is at risk of sanctions themselves,\u201d Rubio said. \u201cForeign banks and other companies that provide services to these entities should freeze those activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the United Nations, Ambassador Mike Waltz demanded that the Cuban regime make \u201cimmediate\u201d economic and political reforms. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are asking very simple things: Open the economy, free political prisoners, stop treating private citizens as a threat, and stop blaming America for the misery produced by Havana and its failed policies,\u201d Waltz said. <\/p>\n
