FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 It started at 11 years old.<\/p>\n

Seanna Martinez didn\u2019t realize it at the time, but she was being groomed online. By 14, she had connected with a man on a hookup app called HUD, an app she chose specifically because it didn\u2019t have an 18-plus age restriction.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s supposed to be an app where you have FWB, which is friends with benefits,\u201d she said. \u201cI kind of just looked for something that was not necessarily for adults.\u201d<\/p>\n

She remembered specifically seeking it out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember specifically back then I didn\u2019t want to get on an adult dating site because the age restriction was like, \u2018Oh, 18 plus,\u2019 she recalled. \u201dBut I remember that that app, HUD, at least back then, I believe it wasn\u2019t 18 plus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man went by the alias \u201cAdam0041.\u201d But detectives said he was actually Osher Mamion, a 30-year-old who allegedly wasted little time. His first message asked her age. When she told him she wasn\u2019t 18, he responded, \u201cSexy,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Detectives said within minutes, they moved from HUD to Snapchat, then to Instagram, where they video-chatted between 11 p.m. and midnight. Over two days, according to a court affidavit, Mamion convinced Seanna to send him explicit photos of herself.<\/p>\n

Seanna said older men had been pulling her in for years before Mamion:<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that time, I was honestly speaking to so many guys online who were older than me, who would genuinely just control me,\u201d she said. \u201cWe would be on the phone for hours at night, and that was part of the grooming process. I feel like that\u2019s kind of where I got this idea \u2014 \u2018I\u2019m just into older men\u2019 \u2014 but the reality was I was really just into the affection that I was receiving, and I just kind of made that my identity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police said the two eventually agreed to meet in person. Seanna tried to back out, texting that they should meet another day. Mamion pushed back, telling her he had taken off work, authorities said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to back out, and I remember making up a bunch of excuses, just being like, \u2018No, I can\u2019t do it,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd he was very adamant, saying, \u2018Oh, I took off of work \u2014 how could you do this to me?\u2019 And so on and so forth. I eventually \u2014 I didn\u2019t really know how to say no \u2014 just said, \u2018OK, we\u2019ll meet up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Police said Mamion picked Seanna up from her middle school in North Miami in a blue SUV and took her back to his apartment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of just remember feeling icky, because even though online it was one thing, in person it was just kind of having someone who was ready to take advantage of you. It was very weird,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Seanna said the relationship ended after she casually mentioned Mamion to her sister, who was a year older. Her older sister took her phone and drove her straight to the police department. <\/p>\n

North Miami Beach police contacted the FBI. Authorities said Mamion admitted to investigators that he had exchanged explicit photos with Seanna but claimed he didn\u2019t know she was 14.<\/p>\n

Seanna now wants parents to understand what she didn\u2019t have: boundaries around cellphone use.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving boundaries with my cellphone, definitely placed by your parents. I would say they unfortunately placed too much trust in me and my cellphone, but my cellphone had predators on it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Her message to parents is direct:<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say to set clear boundaries with your kids and their cellphone usage \u2014 whether that\u2019s literally physically removing it from them at a certain time, checking it frequently, checking who they\u2019re talking to, checking the apps that they have. That\u2019s what\u2019s going to help prevent things like this from happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

And even when kids push back, she says parents need to hold firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that it is the parents\u2019 responsibility to do everything in their power to make sure their kid is safe,\u201d she said. \u201cSo even if there\u2019s pushback, they need to step up and be a parent and make sure that their child is not in danger, because at the end of the day, if it\u2019s not you, it\u2019s going to be the predator who\u2019s looking after your kids.\u201d<\/p>\n
