{"id":2675,"date":"2026-06-18T17:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T17:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2675"},"modified":"2026-06-18T17:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T17:04:13","slug":"ask-ice-whats-changed-florida-emergency-director-reacts-to-alligator-alcatraz-relocations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2675","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Ask ICE what\u2019s changed\u2019: Florida emergency director reacts to \u2018Alligator Alcatraz\u2019 relocations"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>NORTH MIAMI, Fla. \u2014 Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie commented Thursday on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\u2019s decision to move all detainees from \u201dAlligator Alcatraz\u201d, citing hurricane concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2673\">\u2018Grappler\u2019 technique helps Hollywood police nab alleged car thief wanted on multiple warrants<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Guthrie was in North Miami for a hurricane preparedness roundtable at Florida International University\u2019s Biscayne Bay campus.<\/p>\n<p>The transfer comes despite Guthrie and other officials previously stating the immigration detention facility could survive a weak storm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you would need to ask ICE what\u2019s changed,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cAt the end of the day, the governor has always said that the immigration facility is temporary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cIt was always designed to be temporary. ICE has made a decision. They came out with that statement. I did not see that statement prior to it hitting the media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guthrie maintained that the structures on the site are still sturdy enough to survive a storm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe structures themselves, the I beam structures, the soft-sided structures can withstand up to 74 mile-an-hour winds, that is a tropical storm, (Category 1) hurricane,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cThere was never ever an intent to leave individuals at that facility, even in a tropical storm.
