Now, more than a year later, authorities took suspect Lois Helen Roeckelein into custody.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the 55-plus community describe Roeckelein, who turns 92 in July, as sharp as a tack and said that she was only trying to protect her property. But authorities said what she did was criminal.<\/p>\n<p>Local 10 News spoke with the alleged victim, Marilyn Lopez, who said Roeckelein, then 90, fired at her while she was walking her dog, Cash, along a canal right behind Roeckelein\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>She said Roeckelein told her, \u201cIf you don\u2019t get out of my property, I\u2019m going to shoot you right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, she said, \u201cthat lady started shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lopez claims it wasn\u2019t the first confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat lady, two times before that, she said, \u2018I will not rest until I see all of you immigrants go back where you belong,\u2019\u201d Lopez said.<\/p>\n<p>Margate police responded to the incident last year and residents watched shocked to see their elderly neighbor taken into custody under the Baker Act. David Rivera, convicted in Venezuela lobbying case<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another neighbor said, \u201cSo I said to Lois, \u2018What happened?\u2019 She said, \u2018Well, that lady with the little dog keeps walking behind my property and the dog keeps messing and she doesn\u2019t pick up the stuff.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roeckelein was issued a notice to appear in court, but after more than a year, never showed. <\/p>\n<p>Margate police only realized the senior had a warrant for her arrest after they began investigating a traffic crash she was in on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez said she was concerned about Roeckelein\u2019s mental state; she\u2019s known to be caring for her 101-year-old husband.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I said, \u2018You have to figure it out, what type of help they need, because they are seniors,\u2019\u201d Lopez said. \u201cIf she\u2019s not well mentally, she\u2019s not in the capacity to help (her) husband.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roeckelein would later be released from jail.
