{"id":2915,"date":"2026-06-22T15:35:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T15:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2915"},"modified":"2026-06-22T15:35:44","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T15:35:44","slug":"police-officers-arrest-ex-fhp-trooper-after-regret-over-warning-for-speeding-records-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2915","title":{"rendered":"Police officers arrest ex-FHP trooper after regret over warning for speeding, records show"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>A Miami police officer gave a speeder who claimed to be a Florida Highway Patrol trooper a break \u2014 but it was a kindness that he came to regret and quickly corrected, records show. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2913\">Victims identified following double homicide in rural Miami-Dade<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Miami police officer was working at 8:50 a.m. on June 18 at Northwest Seventh Avenue and 11th Street in Miami\u2019s Overtown area, according to the police arrest report. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI observed a red motorcycle traveling southbound and visually estimated the motorcycle traveling higher than the posted speed limit,\u201d the officer wrote, according to the report. \u201cI activated my laser and obtained a digital reading of 48 mph on a posted 30 mph zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The police officer identified the motorcyclist as Jose Rivero, who stopped and said he was \u201cone of us,\u201d according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am FHP Troop E Miami,\u201d Rivero, 34, told the officer, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>Rivero, whose driver\u2019s license was suspended, then &#8220;presented&#8221; a badge FHP identification that had been issued on Aug. 6, 2014, records show. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI proceeded to issue a warning,\u201d the police officer wrote, according to the arrest report. <\/p>\n<p>The police officer quickly learned Rivero \u201cwas no longer an active trooper &#8230; was terminated,\u201d and was \u201cno longer employed\u201d with FHP, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=2911\">AP Decision Notes: What to expect in South Carolina\u2019s state primary runoff<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The police officer searched for Rivero, found his red motorcycle at Northwest 11th Avenue and West Flagler Street, and saw he \u201cwas trying to leave the scene,\u201d according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>Miami police officers arrested Rivero shortly after 9:30 a.m. on June 18, according to the report. Miami-Dade corrections booked Rivero shortly after 1:15 p.m. on June 18 at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to inmate records.<\/p>\n<p>Court records show prosecutors filed a felony case against Rivero on June 19, when he appeared in bond court, facing a charge of falsely personating an officer, a third-degree felony. His bond was 2,500. <\/p>\n<p>Court records also show the police officer later issued Rivero a citation for a violation of an established speed zone on June 18.
