MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. \u2014 The first game of the NFL season is still several months away, but Friday marked what the Miami Dolphins view as the start of a new era.<\/p>\n

Practice No. 1 of rookie minicamp also served as the first under head coach Jeff Hafley, with general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan joining him on the field to get a close look at the team\u2019s newest players.<\/p>\n

Among them was the team\u2019s first round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft, offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor, the massive Alabama product wearing No. 74, who said he was fired up to take the field for the first time in a Dolphins uniform.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved it. I\u2019m not gonna lie. Like I\u2019m overly happy, you know. I had a good day. I had some good preparation, you know, it\u2019s, it\u2019s hot out here, but I hydrated pretty well, so I feel really good,\u201d he said. \u201cHeart wasn\u2019t beating too fast, so that\u2019s definitely a good sign of getting acclimated to it. I feel so good, honestly, especially in my number, man. Got my number too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans are already buzzing about rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, a second-round pick out of Texas Tech, who says he\u2019s leaned on Dolphins legend Zach Thomas \u2014 also a Texas Tech alum \u2014 as a mentor. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s real easy to see the blueprint of what he did, and he reached out right after I got drafted, and he\u2019s the best,\u201d Rodriguez said of Thomas. \u201cHe\u2019s a great person, a great human being, along with being a great football player.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dolphins rookie tight end Will Kacmarek, a third round pick out of Ohio State, said he\u2019s focused on being a professional so his team can count on him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all about being a pro \u2014 showing up on time with a notebook and being ahead of the playbook,” he said. \u201cWhen your number is called, you can perform to the best of your ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dolphins fifth-round rookie safety Michael Taaffe said coaches are emphasizing fundamentals early in camp as players adjust to the NFL level.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach (Hafley) reminded us that it\u2019s gonna be nothing like a real practice. This is just getting us into the fundamentals and techniques, trying to get us to adapt to how they really practice,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to learn as much as I can, put my head down and grind.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dolphins on Friday also announced that they have signed 11 undrafted college free agents: center Jim Bonifas, tackle Kevin Cline, quarterback Mark Gronowski, running back Anthony Hankerson, defensive lineman Rene Konga, wide receiver Donaven McCulley, edge Rodney McGraw, safety Louis Moore, running back Le\u2019Veon Moss, edge Mason Reiger and defensive lineman Kahlil Saunders. <\/p>\n
