FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 Opening statements were underway Thursday in the civil trial involving ex-Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and social media influencer Sophie Hall, who alleges she suffered a broken leg during football drills at his former Southwest Ranches home nearly three years ago.<\/p>\n

Hall, 36, claims Hill battered and assaulted her during a June 2023 workout and was negligent, resulting in a fractured tibia that required surgery and the insertion of two screws. <\/p>\n

Court records show she is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe case from our perspective is about an aggressive act,\u201d Hall\u2019s attorney Jonathan Gdanski said during opening statements.<\/p>\n

Gdanski told jurors Hall was not a professional athlete and was invited to Hill\u2019s home after the two connected on social media in May 2023. He said the two met again on June 28 and began running offensive line-style drills.<\/p>\n

Hall\u2019s attorney says she was instructed to rush toward Hill, 32, during the drill and made contact, which initially pushed him backward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened was Sophie Hall, this woman, moved him back,\u201d Gdanski said. \u201cThey giggled, they laughed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The plaintiff\u2019s attorneys allege that after Hill was \u201chumiliated\u201d in front of friends and family, he switched positions and forcefully shoved Hall, causing the fracture.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore anything else, at the force that Sophie felt from Tyreek coming at her, she is in excruciating pain,\u201d Gdanski said.<\/p>\n

Hall\u2019s legal team said she later underwent surgery and presented X-rays to jurors showing the extent of the injury.<\/p>\n

Hill\u2019s attorneys dispute that version of events, arguing Hall tripped over a dog at his and that the fall \u2014 not any contact with Hill \u2014 caused her injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs he goes around, she steps on the dog and goes down on her knee,\u201d Hill\u2019s defense attorney Rob Horwitz said in opening statements.<\/p>\n

The defense also argued Hall voluntarily participated in the drills and understood they involved physical contact.<\/p>\n

Attorneys said Hall remained at Hill\u2019s home for three days after the incident and did not seek immediate medical attention until returning to her Tampa-area residence.<\/p>\n

Hall took the stand following opening statements and is expected to continue testifying as she pursues damages in the case.<\/p>\n
