{"id":629,"date":"2026-05-19T06:03:49","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=629"},"modified":"2026-05-19T06:03:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:03:49","slug":"dangerous-7-oh-still-popping-up-in-florida-despite-state-banning-synthetic-opioid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=629","title":{"rendered":"Dangerous 7-OH still popping up in Florida despite state banning synthetic opioid"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>MIAMI \u2014 The synthetic opioid 7-OH is banned in Florida, but the Drug Enforcement Administration says it\u2019s still being sold in smoke shops, gas stations, corner stores and online.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=627\">NAACP questions why Miami-Dade Fire Rescue recruit class had only 1 graduating African American<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are assuming it\u2019s something that\u2019s safe that you can buy at the corner gas station and it\u2019s actually completely the opposite,\u201d said DEA Miami Field Division Special Agent in Charge Miley Aley. <\/p>\n<p>Local 10 News\u2019 Byron Tollefson received an exclusive look inside the DEA\u2019s West Miami lab, it\u2019s busiest in the country. <\/p>\n<p>There, seized 7-OH tablets sit, collecting dust. <\/p>\n<p>The drug comes from Kratom, a tropical tree from southeast Asia. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can chew up the leaves, you can crush the leaves, dry them, smoke them, ingest them, but it is an analgesic and stimulant,\u201d said DEA Miami Southeast Laboratory Associate Director Cami Dubach.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s addictive and 13 times more potent than morphine, connecting to the same parts of the brain as heroin and other opioids.<\/p>\n<p>Public health officials say it\u2019s been linked to fatal overdoses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re taking extremely potent concentrations of dangerous and addictive chemicals,\u201d said Aley. <\/p>\n<p>It can be found in tablet-form with a \u201c7\u201d label or as part of drink mixes. <\/p>\n<p>It can also be made appealing to kids, marketed as candies, everyday cereals and even ice cream cones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s disturbing,\u201d said Dubach. \u201cAs a parent myself, I think that is something you want to talk to your kids about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida banned 7-OH last August. <\/p>\n<p>One South Florida vape shop owner who spoke to Local 10 News and asked not to be identified said he took it off his shelves right away, but it was devastating for his bottom line.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=625\">FIFA launches official World Cup merchandise shop in Miami Beach<\/a><\/p>\n<p>People would spend hundreds of dollars on 7-OH products every few days.<\/p>\n<p>He says he could\u2019ve opened a store just for 7-OH.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat might consist of 20% of what we make,\u201d he said. \u201cCause it\u2019s that good of a product and it\u2019s that helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the DEA seized tens of thousands of vape cartridges, THC products and more from large warehouses and smoke shops around the state.
