{"id":963,"date":"2026-05-23T22:03:30","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T22:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=963"},"modified":"2026-05-23T22:03:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T22:03:30","slug":"fort-lauderdale-dui-manslaughter-suspect-released-on-bond-despite-familys-objections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=963","title":{"rendered":"Fort Lauderdale DUI manslaughter suspect released on bond despite family\u2019s objections"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 A Broward judge has granted bond to a man accused of driving drunk and causing a deadly crash near downtown Fort Lauderdale in March, a decision that has alarmed the victim\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=961\">SpaceX launches its biggest, most beefed-up Starship yet on a test flight<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The crash happened March 25 near Southwest Seventh Avenue and Broward Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>Police said 33-year-old Kristopher David, a father of two, was driving a white BMW when a black Audi allegedly driven by 20-year-old Dominick Rella ran a red light.<\/p>\n<p>Surveillance video captured the collision.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said Rella was driving nearly 83 mph in a 35-mph zone when he crashed into David\u2019s vehicle, sending it into a nearby firetruck.<\/p>\n<p>David died in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>His mother pleaded in court for justice and asked that Rella remain behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want another mother to go through what I\u2019m going through right now because of his reckless driving. I lost my only child,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the judge expressed concerns before ultimately granting bond.<\/p>\n<p>Rella has since been released from jail.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/southfloridamovingguides.com\/?p=959\">NASCAR\u2019s Kyle Busch was short of breath, coughing up blood day before his death, 911 call reveals<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He now faces 11 charges, including DUI manslaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Court records also showed Rella had been accused in a careless driving crash in 2024 and had an open speeding ticket from February.<\/p>\n<p>David had been engaged and was planning to get married this fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was my little baby,\u201d his mother said. \u201cAnd this loss has affected me and his father who suffers with dementia very badly. And his two children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the family continues to struggle in the aftermath of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sleeping. It\u2019s very hard,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I pray no one else will have to go through what I\u2019m going through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of his release conditions, the judge ordered Rella not to drive, drink alcohol or leave the area.
