Video shows arrest of unruly passenger on flight to Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Tempers flared on a United Airlines flight from Newark, New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said Daniel Borman, 36, of Springfield, New Jersey, started yelling at flight attendants who cut him off from alcohol.

Multiple off-duty law enforcement officers were on the flight, however, including the former chief of the Minneapolis Police Department, Brian O’Hara who said something “was just off.”

“I was standing on the chair while the other guys were behind him and just grabbed one of his arms,” O’Hara said. “I had to get his arm off of the chair, and put it behind his back.”

He added, “Apparently, my wife told me I was yelling at him to put his hands behind his back, like I was still a cop. But I have no memory of that.”

A deputy from the Bergen County, New Jersey Sheriff’s Office was aboard and had handcuffs to place on Borman, O’Hara said. The ordeal lasted about 45 minutes.

Of the man’s behavior, O’Hara said, “It’s bothersome to watch someone abuse women like that so disrespectfully and threatening them when they’re just trying to do their job.”

United Airlines issued a statement reading: “We thank our crew and customers for assisting with the situation and helping ensure the safety of everyone onboard.”

Borman, facing a disorderly intoxication charge, was no longer listed in Broward jail records as of Thursday afternoon.
