On Sunday morning in Palmetto Bay, a group of local businesses and nonprofits teamed up to take some of that pressure off, providing everything from school supplies to haircuts, all for free.
The event was held at The Cut Stop barbershop, located at 9853 E Fern St., were students in kindergarten through 12th grade were welcomed to receive backpacks, school supplies, hygiene kits and other essentials.
They’re also being treated to free haircuts and hair braiding, along with sports physicals, counseling vouchers, brow services, and other resources.

In all, 13 local businesses and nonprofits contributed to Sunday’s event.
Organizers said the goal is to make sure students walk into the new school year feeling prepared and confident, especially young people served by LSF Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services.
The group operates emergency shelters for children dealing with trauma or instability, making the start of a new school year an even bigger challenge for some families.
