MIA expansion brings 200 jobs, boosts aircraft maintenance capacity

MIAMI — Miami-Dade County officials on Monday celebrated the expansion of an aerospace and defense company’s aircraft maintenance facility at Miami International Airport.

Officials say the project is expected to add at least 200 full-time jobs and increase the facility’s capacity by about one-third.

AAR Corp., a global provider of aviation services, marked the expansion of its maintenance, repair and overhaul facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The project adds 100,000 square feet to the operation as Miami International Airport continues a major push to expand and modernize its infrastructure.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava highlighted the importance of the investment as passenger and cargo traffic continue to grow at the airport.

“We have such a growth in commercial passenger cargo here at Miami International Airport, and this will continue to be a hub for maintenance and repair,” she said. “This is a major expansion, a 1/3 increase in size and capacity, with at least 200 very well-paid jobs,” Levine Cava said.

County leaders said the new positions will add to Miami-Dade’s aviation and aerospace workforce while strengthening the airport’s role as a center for aircraft maintenance and repair.

The expansion comes as Miami International Airport undertakes an unprecedented program of capital improvements and maintenance upgrades.
