The crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. near Powerline and Prospect roads.

First responders assessed the passengers and train crew and no one was hurt, a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said two people were being assessed at the scene, however.

Local 10 News spoke to men who said their friend from church was driving the car when it somehow malfunctioned.

They say she was able to make it out just before it was hit.

“Someway, somehow she got ricocheted out of the car,” Jackson Saint Fort, one of the men, said. “She was on the ground and she just watched as the train hit her car as it was heading on Powerline.

“Like she said, we don’t know how the door opened. But God said, ‘I don’t want you in the car today.’ He saved her.”

The grade crossings near Powerline and Prospect roads were blocked off and traffic was being detoured as authorities investigated.
