3 detained after police pursuit ends in Fort Lauderdale, police say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Three people were taken into custody Tuesday after a police chase involving Fort Lauderdale police officers and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, authorities said.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, an officer located a vehicle at approximately 11:30 a.m. that had just been involved in a “felony incident” in Pompano Beach.

Police said the vehicle had previously fled from BSO deputies.

A Fort Lauderdale officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit, according to FLPD.

BSO deputies and the agency’s Aviation Unit later joined the pursuit.

Authorities said the chase came to an end in the 1600 block of West Sunrise Boulevard after Fort Lauderdale police deployed a grappler, a device designed to help officers stop fleeing vehicles.

Police said three people “immediately bailed out of the vehicle” and ran from the scene.

All three were taken into custody a short time later, according to FLPD.

Authorities have not released the identities of those arrested or details about the felony incident in Pompano Beach that preceded the pursuit.
