MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The widow of a man who was killed Sunday when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging multiple failures contributed to her husband’s death.

Yaraisi Santiso Morejon filed the lawsuit following the death of her husband, 53-year-old Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, who was killed in the crash.
According to the lawsuit, Amazon Air Flight 7598 landed at MIA on Sunday before overrunning Runway 30 and striking vehicles on and near airport property, including a van driven by Rodriguez Naranjo.
The lawsuit names Amazon Inc. and Amazon Air Cargo as defendants, along with 21 Air LLC and other related companies involved in operating the aircraft, the plane’s lessors and pilots Joseph Carroll and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina.
The complaint alleges a series of failures contributed to the crash, including pilot error, inadequate training and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft.

“Our hearts go out to Yaraisi and her family, as well as all those who were impacted by what we believe was a preventable tragedy,” Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan said in a statement Wednesday. “No one should lose their loved one this way, and the filing of this lawsuit is just the beginning of our fight to secure justice and accountability for Mr. Naranjo’s death.”
Attorney Mike Morgan said the firm alleges the crash was not a “freak accident,” but instead a “foreseeable and preventable disaster.”
“What we’ve already uncovered points to a series of failures by the people flying the plane, the companies that put it in the air and the systems that were supposed to prevent this exact kind of tragedy,” Morgan said. “Yaraisi deserves answers and justice. We intend to get her both.”
The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County.
