Man describes how he rescued woman from 2 dogs’ jaws during attack caught on video in Miami-Dade

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Surveillance video shows two pit bulls attacking a 63-year-old woman on Friday afternoon in Homestead. Alex Hernandez likely saved her life.

Hernandez, who was working nearby, said he heard the dogs barking and the woman’s cries for help near the 200 block of Northwest Ninth Terrace.

“I saw the two dogs on top of her … I was able to run over at them and scream and they luckily let go,” Hernandez said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel reported finding the woman with injuries to the back of her head, neck, right arm, and right ankle.

“Her skull was showing. She had holes in her arms and her legs and the back of her legs,” said Cobi Brooks, a witness. “She was really tore up … I hope she survives.”

MDFR used a helicopter to fly the woman to the Jackson South Medical Center.

The woman, who had to undergo surgery, remained hospitalized on Saturday morning, and her condition was stable.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services seized the two dogs.
