MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A house fire in northwest Miami-Dade’s unincorporated West Little River area sent a senior to the hospital on Thursday morning.

The blaze broke out at around 5:45 a.m. in the 3500 block of Northwest 101st Street.
Resident Peyton Hernandez said she was one of three people displaced in the fire, which started in the home’s garage. Medics took her grandfather to a trauma center.

“We tried to put it out with water ourselves, but it wouldn’t (go out). And my grandfather, he tried to put it out and he ended up passing out and getting some burns,” Hernandez said. “So he got sent to the hospital. We’ve just been out here waiting for (the firefighters). I think they’re trying to clean out the room because there was a lot of stuff in that room where the fire started at. So it’s just a lot.”
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the man was stable as of Thursday morning.
Authorities haven’t said whether they’ve identified a suspected cause for the blaze.

Officials put up an unsafe property notice outside the house.
