Lauderhill condo fire sparked by pot left on stove displaces family, sends child to hospital

LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A 9-year-old was taken to a hospital for evaluation after possible smoke inhalation following a residential fire caused by a pot left on a stove that displaced a mother and two children in Lauderhill, authorities said.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue officials said crews responded to the fire and said the family was unable to remain in the home, located in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace, following the incident.

Officials said the child was transported by a basic life support unit for evaluation. Authorities have not released the child’s gender or identity.

Investigators said the blaze originated from a pot left unattended on the stove.

They said the mother and two children were displaced by the fire, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with temporary housing and support services.

No other injuries have been reported at this time.
