SWAT team responds to apartment building after shooting in Coral Springs

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A SWAT team responded to an apartment building after a shooting on Thursday morning in Coral Springs.

Witnesses said they heard a shooting at about 3 a.m., and a helicopter at about 5 a.m. near Royal Palm Boulevard and Riverside Drive.

Theresa Zuniga, who lives in the area, said she was scared when she heard the helicopter flying over.

“This place is very calm,” Zuniga said about her neighborhood.

A tarp that police usually use to cover a body was on the ground in the parking lot of the Coral Park East apartment complex.

The Coral Springs Police Department announced that the nearby Somerset Academy will be “closed for the day” and asked the public to “avoid the area.”
