MDSO: Boy, 5, killed after being struck by pickup truck at Krome Motorcross Park

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 5-year-old boy was killed Friday night after he was struck by a driver in a pickup truck while riding a bicycle in northwest Miami-Dade, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash happened around 9:13 p.m. in the 16000 block of Northwest 177th Avenue, near Krome Motocross Park, just off Krome Avenue.

According to investigators, deputies responded to reports of a traffic crash involving a child on a bicycle. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found the boy was riding his bicycle between parked vehicles and crossed into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado that was exiting the property before he was struck, authorities said.

The boy and driver’s identity have not been released at this time.

Authorities said MDSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. They also confirmed that a race scheduled at the park for this weekend has been canceled.
