Argentina qualifies
Lionel Messi was in tears after Argentina won 3-2 against Egypt during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match on Tuesday in Atlanta.
Yasser Ibrahim and Mustafa Zico scored Egypt’s goals. The video assistant referee disallowed a second goal by Zico because Egypt’s Marwan Attia had stepped on Argentina’s Lisandro Martínez’s foot.
Argentina’s Cristian Romero scored with a header before Messi scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute. It was Messi’s 8th FIFA World Cup 2026 goal; it was the 21st of his World Cup career.
