Man tased, arrested after refusing to leave hotel restaurant

MIAMI — A restaurant dispute that stretched on for more than two hours ended with police using a Taser on a 35-year-old man who refused to leave.

Richard James Scott called himself the son of God before he was finally handcuffed and arrested. He appeared in bond court Sunday afternoon.

Cellphone video captured the moment police used a Taser on Scott outside Primo’s restaurant.

“It was a bad time for our people, for my employee, especially for the customers,” said Ugo Patierno, the restaurant’s chef operations manager.

Patierno said Scott tried to pay for a couple of drinks with a fake credit card before telling him to charge it to his room. But the number Scott gave for the room was also fake: 666.

“He said, ‘I’m the son of God. So this is my room, you can charge on my room.’ I laughed the first time,” Patierno said.

Patierno said Scott eventually became aggressive, yelling at him and the staff. They asked him to leave, but he refused, and police were called.

That started a prolonged interaction with police before Scott finally got up and walked out of the hotel restaurant.

Outside, he tried to get into a Rolls-Royce that wasn’t his. That’s when police had had enough and used a Taser.

Scott was taken to jail, where he was booked on trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.

He appeared in bond court Sunday afternoon, where a judge set his bond at $650.

Scott was also ordered to stay away from the hotel and restaurant.
