‘Major heartbreak’: Litter of puppies among 12 dogs killed in Hollywood apartment fire

It was just before noon when crews responded to the 1900 block of Rodman Street after receiving reports of a unit on fire.

Officials said 12 dogs died in the fire while one canine was saved by a firefighter giving it CPR.

Owner Andrea Santos was at work when her boyfriend called and asked if she had noticed smoke on their ring camera.

She told Local 10 News she immediately thought of her dogs, five adult dogs and a litter of puppies, who were all trapped inside.

Santos says she took off running to save the dogs, but it would be too late by the time she arrived back at her home.

Officials said the dogs perished due to smoke inhalation.

Santos said she and her family are emotionally destroyed.

“They mean the world,” she said. “I’ve had her since she was born, I’ve had all of them since they were born. It’s a major heartbreak for me and my family.”

Authorities said signs point to an accidental fire, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The American Red Cross is now assisting Santos and her family find a place to stay.

Family members also created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses and vet bills.
