Miami Beach police sergeant helps save senior choking during lunch in Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. — A Miami Beach police officer is being hailed a hero after jumping into action to help a senior who was choking while having lunch.

The life-saving actions occurred on Saturday at La Vina Aragon Restaurant y Cafeteria, located at 8155 W. Eighth Ave. in Hialeah.

According to authorities, Miami Beach Police Sgt. Alex Bello was working at a property and evidence warehouse in Hialeah when he stopped for lunch at the restaurant.

While he was at the restaurant, Bello noticed an 80-year-old man who started choking and quickly moved to help him, performing the Heimlich maneuver.

Bello’s quick actions saved him, who started breathing again at the restaurant, much to the delight of the people who were watching the ordeal unfold.

The man did not suffer any additional injuries and at last check was doing just fine.
