Boca woman bit part of husband’s ear off as he drove on I-95 in Broward, troopers say

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Boca Raton woman over the weekend after they said she bit off part of her husband’s ear while he was driving with his two children in the car on Interstate 95 in Broward County.

Amy Arline Baker, 43, was arrested following the incident, which authorities say happened around 8:15 p.m. Saturday on northbound I-95 near Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach.

According to an arrest report, troopers were dispatched after 911 dispatchers in Lake Worth reported a domestic incident in Broward County. Troopers were told Baker and her husband had gone to West Boca Medical Center in Boca Raton after the incident.

Baker initially called 911 and reported that her husband had struck her, the report states.

When troopers spoke with her husband, they said he was wearing a white bandage around his head and had streaks of what appeared to be blood extending down the right side of his neck and onto his shirt and shorts.

The man told troopers he and his wife were coming home from a boat party in the Fort Lauderdale Port Marina area when, while heading northbound on I-95 approaching Hillsboro Boulevard, he and Baker began arguing about “past problems within their relationship,” according to the report.

The report states Baker called her husband derogatory names, including a “f–got.”

The husband then told Baker, “Who is the one with the felony?” before claiming Baker slapped him while he was driving, according to the report.

About two minutes after the first strike, Baker grabbed his face with both hands and “intentionally bit into the right side of his ear, tearing off a portion of his ear,” the report states.

The husband told troopers he never touched Baker during the altercation.

His children, 1 and 7, were also in the vehicle at the time, according to the report.

After biting off the portion of his ear, Baker laughed and did not “initially appear to take the severity of his injury seriously,” the report states.

Friends of the victim picked up his kids and transported them to a home for their safety, according to the report.

Jail records show Baker is facing one count each of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and two counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.

She was no longer listed in the Broward County jail’s online database as of Tuesday afternoon.
