1 killed, 1 detained following shooting at Deerfield Beach shopping plaza

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — A man has died following a shooting Wednesday night in Deerfield Beach, authorities confirmed.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported at about 10:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Southwest First Terrace.

Local 10 News reporter Jolena Esperto was at the scene Thursday morning and said it appeared the shooting happened inside or outside of a vape shop in the plaza.

Authorities confirmed that BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue medics responded to the area and found the victim who had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Deputies confirmed that one person was detained and there was no threat to the community, however it’s unclear whether that person will be charged in the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.
