Suspect in custody following police chase that ended at edge of Plantation canal, cops say

PLANTATION, Fla. — A large police presence was observed on Monday night in Plantation following a pursuit that ended on the edge of a canal in a residential neighborhood.

Officers were seen in the area of Hiatus Road near Sunrise Boulevard.

The suspect’s vehicle could be seen at the edge of the water.

According to authorities, the chase began in the area of North University Drive and Cleary Boulevard when the vehicle did not listen to commands to pull over.

At some point, the suspect bailed out of his car, which led to its front end being partially submerged in the canal.

Assisting in the search were K9 officers and a helicopter unit from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, police said.

Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.
