MIA cargo plane crash snarls Labor Day travel

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The journey to get to South Florida remained a frustrating one for those traveling to Miami International Airport on Monday, one day after a deadly cargo plane crash.

It coincided with the busy Labor Day travel weekend.

One woman said, “I started out in Buffalo, New York, and then I went to Raleigh and then from Raleigh, we had a seven-hour layover, maybe nine hours and then ended up in Denver and had another hour layover and then ended up here.”

Another woman said her flight was rescheduled three times.

The deadly crash brought the entire airport to a ground stop Sunday while first responders rushed to the scene. Inbound flights were seeing the most issues.

Some flights were out-and-out cancelled.

One flyer said she was at MIA for 10 hours.

“They said wait ‘til 5 o’clock to see if we reopen and then they canceled the flight,” she said.

Nearly 150 delays and 60 cancellations were reported as of around 10:30 Monday morning.

Those delays also affected flight crews getting to MIA to staff flights.
