MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Five people remained hospitalized on Monday after a Boeing 767, operated by 21 Air as an Amazon Prime Air cargo jet, overran a runway on Sunday afternoon at Miami International Airport and crashed into parked cars near a warehouse.

Five other people died, according to Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. After the crash, Miami-Dade Fire Chief Raied “Ray” Jadallah said firefighters moved to free the cargo plane’s pilot and co-pilot, who were trapped in the cockpit.
“The airplane did strike a couple of vehicles,” Jadallah said, adding that firefighters had to free the injured who were “trapped in the vehicles.”
Dark smoke billowed from the crash site. MDFR deployed more than 60 units. Fire rescue personnel took the injured to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and the Jackson South Medical Center.

“We had a very complex fire,” Jadallah said.
There was a fuel leak. Firefighters used foam to help extinguish the fire.
MIA came to a standstill after the crash.
A witness’s video showed storm clouds were partially covering the sky when the cargo plane landed at about 2 p.m.
The National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy was set to release information about the crash on Monday.
