School placed on brief lockdown amid police activity in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — An active investigation is ongoing in southwest Miami-Dade County.

It was happening Thursday morning in the area of the 15000 block of southwest 140th Street.

A nearby school, Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School, was placed on a temporary lockdown that has since been lifted.

Officials with Miami-Dade County Public Schools told Local 10 News the lockdown was due to “non-school related police activity in the area.”

Video obtained by Local 10 News shows two men scuffling in the area near the school, and at one point in the video, what sounds like a gunshot is heard.

Police have yet to provide any official information into what occurred or what they are investigating.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, one person was treated at the scene but was not transported to an area hospital.
