Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Patricia Lee on Wednesday night near Northwest 21st Avenue and 28th Street, according to a deputy’s arrest report.
“She loved the dogs, but the way she took care of them, I knew this was gonna happen,” Anthony Thomas said on Thursday.
Lee was living with her three dogs in a tent with a small fan in the backyard of a house, according to the deputy’s arrest report.
Lee “left the three dogs inside the closed tent for multiple hours while temperatures reached approximately 92 degrees,” a deputy wrote, according to the arrest report.

Lee’s neighbors said they heard her screaming in grief when she returned to her tent and found her dogs dead, according to the report.
“She took them to the side of the house, put the water on them, and left the lady’s water running,” Thomas said.
Corrections booked Lee on Wednesday at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, and she appeared in bond court on Thursday.
Lee faced four charges: Three counts of causing a cruel death, excessive pain, or unnecessary suffering to an animal, and one count of impounding or confining any animal without a sufficient quantity of good, wholesome food and water. Her bond was $11,500.
