Miami Marlins select SS Jacob Lombard with 14th overall pick in 2026 MLB Draft

MIAMI — The Miami Marlins selected Miami Gulliver Prep’s Jacob Lombard with the 14th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft during the All-Star Weekend in Philadelphia.

Lombard, a 6-foot-3 right-handed hitter and shortstop, also played soccer in high school. His father, George, was a Major League Baseball outfielder for six seasons.

His brother, George Lombard Jr., also plays shortstop for the New York Yankees.

Lombard received scouting grades of 55 for hitting, 60 for power, 65 for running, 50 for arm strength, 55 for fielding, and an overall grade of 60 on MLB’s 20-80 scouting scale, according to MLB.com.

Frankie Piliere, the vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives for the Marlins, released a statement.

“The evaluation is the evaluation, and if he was from anywhere, it’d be really great,” Piliere said. “We’d be just as excited.”
