2 arrested months after man fatally shot in Wynwood, police say

MIAMI — Two people have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood earlier this year, according to investigators.

Jail records show Jeremy Isiah Davis, 30, of Miami, was arrested Wednesday and is facing one count each of second-degree murder with a weapon, burglary of an occupied structure, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal mischief.

Records show Miracle De Jesus Johnson, 19, of Miami Gardens, was arrested early Thursday morning and is facing a charge of accessory after the fact.

Officers with the Miami Police Department said the arrests stem from the July 2 shooting near Northwest Third Avenue and 22nd Street that left a man dead.

According to Davis’ arrest warrant, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 9:29 p.m. after receiving reports of a man who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, who has not been identified, “on the ground facedown with a gunshot wound to the upper torso,” the warrant states.

Authorities said Miami Fire Rescue medics transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he “succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 9:49 p.m.”

An autopsy later determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso and ruled the manner of death a homicide, the warrant states.

Investigators said surveillance footage from MPD’s Real Time Crime Center captured the confrontation and shooting.

According to the warrant, the video showed the victim and Davis fighting near Northwest Third Avenue and Northwest 22nd Street. At some point, Davis approached the victim and pushed him several times, the warrant states.

Police said the victim then raised his cellphone to his ear. They said Davis then continued to approach the victim and tried to hit the phone out of his hand but missed.

They said as the victim backed away slowly, Davis pulled out a gun and shot the victim one time in the chest area.

The victim then ran eastbound on Northwest 22nd Street, while Davis fled westbound, according to the warrant.

Police said multiple witnesses were interviewed and corroborated what investigators saw on surveillance video, although those witnesses initially told police they had never met Davis and could not identify him.

Investigators said they eventually tracked Davis’ movements through multiple Real Time Crime Center cameras.

They said the video showed Davis fleeing the scene on an electric scooter after the shooting. At approximately 9:41 p.m., surveillance video from Manha Fresh Food, located at 3209 NW Seventh Ave., showed Davis entering the store on the scooter, according to the warrant.

Investigators said they used facial recognition technology on the video, which resulted in the identification of Davis.

Police also obtained cellphone data for a number they said was registered to Davis. According to the warrant, the data placed the phone at the scene of the homicide and later showed movements that investigators said were consistent with the surveillance footage of Davis fleeing the area.

The warrant also states that the cellphone number appeared repeatedly in call records involving the victim before the shooting, including a call approximately 13 minutes before the homicide.

A witness later came forward and provided police with a statement, according to the warrant. Police said that witness told investigators he had known Davis for several years and identified him in a photo as the person he saw fighting with the victim shortly before the shooting occurred.

Investigators said they also determined that Davis was a convicted felon. Records show he had previously been convicted in Miami-Dade County of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance while unarmed.

De Jesus Johnson’s arrest warrant also references surveillance footage from the night of the shooting.

According to that warrant, De Jesus Johnson was seen with Davis and the victim during the confrontation.

The warrant states she was “following and interacting with both parties during the entire incident.”

Police said after Davis allegedly shot the victim, De Jesus Johnson followed Davis as he walked away from the area.

They said surveillance footage from earlier that evening also showed Davis walking toward the area of the shooting with De Jesus Johnson.

As of Thursday morning, Davis was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, while DeJesus Johnson was also being held at TGK on a $75,000 bond.

A motive for the shooting and additional details about the victim weren’t immediately released.
